I'm not sure I am going to be able to fully capture all that Brian and I learned during the NewSpring Leadership Conference we went to on Thursday, but I'll try to give you one piece of truth from each speaker that stood out the most.
Usually when we go to leadership conferences, the speakers speak on... well, leadership. How to be a better leader, how to lead an organization, etc. This time, it turned out to be much more of an encouragment to those who are already leaders within the church.
The first speaker was Perry Noble of NewSpring Church, the host. He spoke from John 2, the story of Jesus' first miracle- turning water into wine. I've never really thought about why Jesus performed this miracle, or any of the miracles. Have you? Perry suggests that Jesus performed this miracle (and the others) to purposely draw attention to himself and to his father. He wanted people to be aware of his presence and to see him clearly. And everything we do as believers should be along those same lines- to draw attention to Jesus and to our Heavenly Father.
The second speaker was Steven Furtick of Elevation Church. He shared six passages from the Bible: Psalm 48:12-14, Psalm 69:30-31, Psalm 22:3, Psalm 100:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:13-18, and Colossians 3:17. His whole message was on gratitude. We should be grateful that we "get" to serve God, instead of complaining that we "got" to. Having an attitude of gratitude changes your entire perspective! Don't keep it inside either- share that you are grateful to those you are grateful to.
Then there was Craig Groeschel of LifeChurch.TV. This was probably one of the most powerful presentations for Brian and I... and I'm going to leave you hanging here until tomorrow. It's getting late, and Sophie is asking for some Oreos and milk. ;)
