This is a tough one... you want to look nice for your husband, but you don't want to look too nice for everyone else's husband... where do you draw the line? What do you consider to be immodest?
When I try on new clothes and get dressed in the morning, if I lift my arms up and my stomach shows, I don't wear it; if I bend over and a butt cheek falls out, I don't wear it; if I lean over and you can see my boobs, I don't wear it; if it is so tight I have trouble breathing, I don't wear it. Let me tell what I do wear. I wear clothes that look nice on my body type without revealing too much. I wear clothes that I feel good in. I wear clothes that are comfortable. I wear clothes that let people know that I am a lady without showing them what I got.
I put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to this topics for several reasons. One, I am a high school teacher. I set an example for a lot of young women. I try to show them that you can look nice, and you can look professional, without showing everything off. Two, I am a pastor's wife. I set an example to grown women who may be seasoned Christians, or might be a new Christian trying to find the right balance and find out what God's view is on how to dress. And three, I am a wife. I love my husband, and I want to keep him around for a while (like, forever). I want him to want to look at me. I want him to never be embarrassed of what I am wearing. And, I don't want anyone else seeing parts of me that are only meant for his eyes to see.
Parents, are you teaching your daughters how to look nice, but not "too nice?"
Men, are you taking responsibility for your own actions and at least making an effort not to look... or make comments...?
Ladies, you know how much is too much. You know what it looks like to look nice or even sexy, and what it looks like to look "immodest." Use your better judgment. If you are uncertain, ask God. Look up some passages in the Bible about it. Ask a trusted friend.
You do not want to be legalistic, but you want your actions to bring God glory. If you are purposely causing a man to stumble, that doesn't bring God glory. If you are just model gorgeous and were blessed with bust and guys look no matter what you wear, it may not be your problem. God may need to do some work in the men around you.
If you get too into "the rules" then when does it end? Makeup? Jewelery? Braces (just for cosmetic reasons)? Cosmetic Surgery? Tattoos? Name brand clothing?
